It is undeniable that LinkedIn is a powerful tool for connecting with the right people, networking, closing deals, and expanding one’s professional network. This is crucial for any business founder. You have probably noticed a large amount of professional content posted daily — stories of raising funding rounds, attending conferences, or securing new jobs. However, not all of these posts gain widespread popularity; some may only receive a few reactions, causing frustration.
However, imagine the impression made on visitors to your profile when they find zero publications. This absence is likely just as frustrating for them.
As of February 2024, LinkedIn has announced that a feature called "creator mode" now available to everyone. Initially designed to increase your follower count and expand your reach on LinkedIn, this feature allows to:
- Publish your own LinkedIn newsletter and send to followers.
- Access streaming live on LinkedIn from your profile.
The concept is to view your page as an additional marketing tool — a channel that broadens your reach, warms up potential leads, and showcases your dedication to your project and promoting community growth, among other purposes.
Furthermore, LinkedIn offers the option to include a website link at the top of your profile, known as a Custom button. This feature provides followers with a brief overview of your work and can directly lead potential clients and customers to your website or sales page.
Newsletters are also an excellent way to showcase your expertise and thought leadership. With the proper strategy and consistent schedule, they can be an effective method for staying top of mind and reaching your audience’s notifications.
Remember, we are on LinkedIn not just for receiving likes, but to make valuable contributions to the community, ourselves, our products, ideas, and projects. These are the things that should be highlighted on your page.
Here are some individuals I follow and find inspiring:
- Tooey Courtemanche, CEO at Procore Technologies, maintains a great newsletter and consistently receives 100+ reactions on his publications, even though he isn’t a superstar.
- Jocelyn S. Lai, Global Head of Talent Acquisition at Duolingo, boasts 17k subscribers and up to 8000 reactions on specific posts.
- Lee-Ann Johnstone, Founder of Affiverse, has 19.5k subscribers. While not all her posts get many reactions, she consistently shares inspiring stories.
- Wade Foster, Co-founder of Zapier, has 28k subscribers, with nearly every publication garnering 100+ reactions.
- Yi Luo has 5k subscribers.
By following the information provided, you can drastically increase your visibility within a short period. Content is an ideal tool for it as with just outreach efforts it is unlikely to gain more than 2500-3000 connections in a year.
However, when people like and comment on your posts, they extend your reach beyond the immediate network, allowing for potential exponential growth in subscribers. My current count stands at 5882 — see if you can match it!
Topics to Post on LinkedIn
- About your professional development over the last 6-12 months. Briefly and to the point, what you have been doing, what you have learned. Example.
- About your desire to find a new team, and why you want it. Example.
- About the dream companies you would like to work with. Add tags of future colleagues and company pages. Example.
- About a challenging case in your experience. How it was once difficult with a client (contractor, management), and how you managed to resolve everything, brief conclusions. Example.
- About significant events in the industry or about experts who inspire you. Example.
- About your workday, how it is structured, what an ideal workday looks like for you. Example.
- About business trips, funny stories from trips. Example.
- Polls. Example.
- Reposts of interesting and useful posts. Always try to write your own explanation for the repost, as the lack of your comments decreases the value of the content and the connection with you. Example.
