Truism connects Ugandan farmers to markets, using AI and IoT to boost agriculture and sustainability
Project representative: Jjimmy Carnel
Truism is a startup that aims to transform Uganda’s agricultural landscape. Its team imagines a world where Ugandan farmers have direct access to profitable markets and where technology fuses with agriculture to create a sustainable future.
Truism is an innovative startup that aims to connect Ugandan smallholder farmers to profitable markets. The company primarily focuses on promoting pulse production, a segment largely neglected but yet valuable. Pluses are crucial in food security, climate adaptation, and soil health improvement.
The difficulty faced by food processors and consumers in sourcing good-quality pulses has been a persistent issue. Often, even when obtained, the stock is dirty and filled with impurities, leading to decreased nutritional value. Truism utilizes technology to provide these stakeholders with ethically sourced, traceable pulses, easing their sourcing woes and promoting farmer well-being.
Under their tech umbrella, we incorporate Agri-tech, AI for predictive analysis, IoT for farm monitoring, blockchain for transparent supply chain, and mobile apps for market linkage. By acting as a bridge and connecting all the dots in the wholesale process, Truism provides our clients with forecasting, credit rating, soil texting, and insightful data monitoring.
The mission is to simplify pulse sourcing for clients, offering premium products at reduced costs while uplifting farmer income by 50% and promoting a sustainable digital economy. Our unique selling point lies in our dry pulses, which have a longer shelf life compared to fresh produce, providing a protein-rich alternative. The diversified product range caters to health-conscious consumers and those looking for dietary alternatives.
In the rapidly expanding pulses market, predicted to reach USD 91701.84 million by 2031, Truism provides a beacon of hope to hundreds of farmers. Truism is already becoming a key player in the industry, with a customer base far beyond the urban spectrum, including supermarkets and restaurants.
With the support of our 9-member startup team and a robust growth trajectory, Truism is confident in bringing its vision to life. As one of the few woman-led social enterprises in Uganda, Truism is not just creating a business but paving the way for a more equal, inclusive, and sustainable future.
